Common questions
Money, Quotes and the $50 Off
What does "$50 off your first service" cover?
It comes straight off the invoice on your first booking with us, whatever the job is. No fine print, no minimum spend, and it applies alongside a free written quote.
How do I pay?
Card or bank transfer once the job's signed off, against the fixed price agreed before we started. Nothing gets added at the end that wasn't already on the quote.
Is the quote really free?
Yes. Someone comes out, looks at the job, and gives you a free written quote. There's no call-out fee whether you book us or not.
Do prices change once you start?
Not for the scope on the quote. Old wiring behind a wall sometimes changes what the job actually needs. If that happens we down tools, walk you through it, and get your sign-off before the price moves at all.
Common questions
The Legal Stuff, Made Simple
What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?
It's the paperwork confirming notifiable electrical work meets AS/NZS 3000 and has been lodged with NSW Fair Trading. You get one on any job that requires it, no need to chase it up.
What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?
It's the small breaker on your board that trips the circuit the instant it senses current going somewhere it shouldn't. That's what keeps a shock from turning fatal. A lot of Tempe's older cottages predate the rule requiring one, so it's the first thing we check.
Are you licensed and insured?
NSW Electrical Contractor Licence #452529C, Master Electricians Australia membership, and full insurance behind every job. You can check the licence yourself on the NSW Fair Trading register.
Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?
No. DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW beyond a short exempt list, and it voids insurance if it goes wrong. Anything past changing a light fitting or plug needs a licensed electrician.
Common questions
When We Can Come
How soon can you fit me in?
Often same or next day for a standard booking, and we won't leave a genuine emergency waiting. We'll always give you a real window rather than a vague "sometime today".
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Anything carrying a real fire or shock risk, which is what moves it to the front of the queue. A burning smell you can't trace, an outlet sparking, bare wiring, or power that drops out for no clear reason. A flickering downlight can wait for a normal booking.
Do you work weekends?
Weekend times are available around Tempe on request, and we'll tell you upfront if a job needs to wait for a weekday. Genuine emergencies aren't limited to business hours either way.
How fast can you get here?
Rail links through the suburb, including the interchange on the northern edge, put most of our jobs within easy reach of the next one. That's what keeps typical response often same or next day.
Common questions
Local to Tempe
What suburbs do you service?
Tempe is home turf, and our regular run extends to Marrickville, Wolli Creek, Arncliffe, Dulwich Hill and Petersham. If you're near any of those, you're well within reach.
Do you work on heritage or strata properties?
Yes, both regularly. Heritage cottages need careful handling around original plaster and skirting, and strata jobs mean coordinating with a building manager, which we're used to doing.
Can you handle new builds and renovations here?
Both, and they're different jobs. A clean install to spec suits the newer apartment stock toward Sydenham; renovation work on an older cottage usually means finding out what's actually behind the wall first.
Why do Tempe's older homes need switchboard upgrades?
A lot of the Federation cottages on the older streets still run their original ceramic-fuse switchboards, built for a fraction of today's appliance load. Air conditioning and modern kitchens push those boards well past what they were ever designed to carry.
